Congratulations to all of the Sort’nGo homes on the West Coast – you’ve made it through the first season of three-stream roadside collection, and are doing a great job at diverting waste from our landfill by sending kitchen waste to the compost facility.

It’s been four months since the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD) rolled out the Sort’nGo three-stream cart collection service for west coast communities. It’s time to celebrate! Since Dec. 5, we have collected 80 tonnes of organic waste material. That’s the equivalent of more than 20 Orca whales! This means more than 37 per cent of household waste has been diverted from the landfill compared to last year!

Spring will be here any day now! When it comes to residential waste management, it’s a busy time of year as gardeners get out their gloves, and tourist season begins for the west coast communities. Sort’nGo roadside organics collection is heading to Tofino, Ucluelet and some surrounding west coast communities. That means 43 per cent of what we’ve been sending to the landfill can now be composted. Organics collection is an important step to long-term waste reduction in our community.

Organics roadside collection is coming to single-family homes (four units or less) on the west coast! The Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD) is launching an updated roadside waste collection service featuring organics (food/yard waste) collection, alongside recycling and garbage in Tofino and Ucluelet.
