The District of Ucluelet is advising of temporary water shut-offs on July 27 and July 28 in the area around Ucluelet Secondary School.

Yew Street, sections of Matterson Drive and Larch Road will be without water between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Thursday, July 27 and again between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Friday, July 28.

Area residents may also experience discoloured water because of this utility upgrade work.

On Thursday, July 27, the district’s public works team will be doing some preliminary assessment work for a fire hydrant replacement on Matterson Drive in front of the Ucluelet Secondary School that will be carried out on Friday, July 28. Traffic will not be affected on July 27.

Milner Group will complete the hydrant replacement work on July 28 and will be working in the shoulder of Matterson Drive. Vehicle traffic may be reduced to single lane alternating on an as-needed basis, but minimal impact on traffic flow is anticipated.

“The area impacted by the water shut-off has been estimated to the best of our ability,” a district spokesperson stated in a community notice. “When conducting work on live infrastructure, the estimated area of impact often changes as the situation unfolds. We thank (the public) for your continued patience and understanding during this process.”
