Joyce was born on May 11, 1930, in Grenfell, Sask., the eldest of four children. Her parents James (Jim) and Muriel Riley soon moved the family to Vancouver. Joyce attended Kitsilano Secondary School, where she met her future husband, George Griffin. In 1949 they married and moved to Ucluelet where George, a commercial fisherman, and Joyce, a housewife, raised their five children. In 1975 Joyce married Ingvold (Wally) Fedje and moved to Nanaimo where she became a stepmother to the youngest of his five children. Joyce is fondly remembered by her grandchildren; Bradley, Krista, Colleen, Joseph, Georgia and the Fedji family. She will be missed by her surviving children; Sharleen, Marcus and Aaron, her sister Helen, her brother Ross, nieces Linda and Cathy and nephew Cord. Joyce died peacefully in Victoria on October 25, 2016. There will be no formal service but a private ceremony will be held in the spring.
