Would you like to sing in a West Coast choir? Tofitian Laura Peake would like to hear from you.
She's gotten a batch of inquiries, and has a prospective rehearsal space at Clayoquot Community Theatre.
She holds a Grade 10 in piano, and is hoping to find a proper weighted keyboard to accompany the group - but is considering a capella arrangements as well.
There has been a strong initial response, she said.
"It's crazy the interest it has inspired, I didn't expect it to amount to anything," she said.
"Everything's just kind of falling into place, and I feel like it's the universe just saying that it's time to just organize something and bring everyone together," Peake said.
The choir is part of a bigger dream for Peake.
"I've been wanting to do it for a few years, but finally put it out there.. Being in a choir is really fun and brings people together in a different way," she said.
The rest of the dream has come true. Peake moved to Tofino from North Vancouver - and it was a kayaking experience that sold her on her adopted home town.
"I did a kayak trip and decided I needed to move here, so I did," she said with a smile.
Peake instantly liked the feel of the West Coast.
"The community - how everyone's really nice, the slower pace of life and less distraction than the city, where there's things going on all the time," she said.
She is hoping prospective choir members will reach her by phone at 250-266-2397, or on facebook, where she is Laura Ekaep.
