Six candidates announced for Tofino municipal byelection

Council seat vacant after sudden and tragic death of Coun. Dorothy Baert.

The District of Tofino officially announced a list of six candidates for the town’s upcoming byelection immediately following Friday’s 4 p.m. application deadline.

Stephen Ashton, Craig Heber, Dan Law, Ronnie Lee, Omar Soliman and Cathy Thicke have all put their names forward for the council seat left vacant after the sudden and tragic death of Coun. Dorothy Baert in July.

The deadline for residents to challenge any candidate’s eligibility to run is Oct. 1 and the deadline for any candidate to withdraw from the race is Oct. 4. The campaign period officially kicks off on Oct. 5.

Advance Voting Day will be held on Oct. 23 and General Voting Day is on Nov. 2.
