The West Coast woke up without power on Dec. 1 as an RV crashed into a BC Hydro poll on Sutton Pass the night before.
The RV is believed to have been travelling towards the West Coast when the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 30, according to Ucluelet RCMP detachment commander Sgt. Marc Jones.
The driver of the RV survived the crash, but sustained several injuries and was transported to the West Coast General Hospital for treatment. Jones said the Port Alberni RCMP are leading the investigation and that the driver is facing several charges under the Motor Vehicle Act.
Hydro crews arrived to fix the destroyed pole and the power was out from about 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Dec. 1. The RV remained on its side and significantly damaged off the highway with police tape around the vehicle on Dec. 5 and Jones said a plan is underway to remove it.
“Unfortunately, that;s where it sits. We’re just waiting for tow trucks to organize time when it’s going to be best suited to remove that vehicle from the side of the highway,” he said.
