As a retired CAO of Ucluelet, a councillor and long-time resident, I am extremely aware of Ucluelet's needs; and, equally important, as an accountant, our capacity to meet those needs.
Therefore, it is my duty as a citizen to make every effort to continue working to better our community. The position of councillor offers me this opportunity.
We have a relatively healthy, diverse economy; yet we need to expand on what we have to improve our community and its liveability.
Many lifestyle needs for children, adults and seniors are addressed, but there's room for more. We need to expand opportunities, including increased utilization and improvements to our recreation facilities.
Our ocean offers numerous marine-related activities: fishing, processing plants, Wild Pacific Trail viewscapes, surfing, our new Aquarium, even a Wave Energy potential. Our job is to enjoy them and share them while recognizing our environmental obligation to protect them.
Municipal roads and sidewalks need fixing! The challenge is not to spend taxpayer money superficially improving them, while neglecting the aging utilities beneath. We need to access Federal Provincial funds.
My passion is to make us the "Green Wave Energy Capital of BC." We have location, wave capacity and transmission lines. In closing, I wish to continue serving on council; and feel I bring a strong background of commitment, dedication and concern for our community.
