Two Tofino accommodations are among 45 finalists for this year’s 14th annual Vancouver Island Real Estate Board Commercial Building Awards.

“We are very pleasantly surprised and absolutely thrilled by the number of nominations and finalists this year,” said Mark MacDonald of Business Examiner, which coordinates the event.

Tofino’s Hotel Zed and Surf Grove Campground were both announced as finalists.

Hotel Zed’s director of marketing and communications Nikisa Dastmalchian said the team was “thrilled” to be recognized.

“Hotel Zed Tofino and the new restaurant Roar have been designed with so much intention, love and rebellious energy—amid a global pandemic no less—and it’s an honour to be nominated for this property,” Dastmalchian wrote in an email to the Westerly News.

“Hotel Zed Tofino is the first time that our CEO Mandy Farmer has had the opportunity to build a hotel from scratch that really rebels against the ordinary. Our other Hotel Zed properties in Kelowna and Victoria were older motels that we renovated and Zed-ified into awesome experiences. With Hotel ZedTofino Mandy was able to bring all of her rebellious ideas—like a psychic’s den and a light-up disco dance floor—to life!”

Award winners will be announced at a Zoom-based event on May 7.
