A CAF aircraft like this one will fly over Ucluelet and Tofino on Wednesday morning, May 3, as part of Emergency Preparedness Week.

On Wednesday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. the District of Ucluelet and the District of Tofino will participate in “Exercise Sweeper”, a communication exercise in conjunction with the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), neighbouring communities and Emergency Management British Columbia (EMBC).

The exercise will provide numerous Vancouver Island Community Emergency Operation Centres (EOC) the opportunity to send formatted voice messages to each other and to EMBC Head Quarters.

The public should be aware that a CAF aircraft will fly over Ucluelet and Tofino at 1,000-1,500 ft. on May 3rd between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. to practice relaying voice messages through the aircraft to an adjacent EOC, as well as, relaying a voice message to EMBC Head Quarters in Victoria.

Please contact the District of Ucluelet’s Manager of Environmental & Emergency Services Karla Robison at 250.726.4780 if you have any concerns.
