Barbara “Lynn” At the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria on February 26, 2017 in her 84th year. Lynn is survived by her sons Charles (Kari-Anne), Bruce (Leah), Jim (Nami) and much loved Grandma “Grammy” to Ryan, Kevin, Kennedy, Conor, Tyler, Jade and Krista. She is also survived by her sister Pat, brother Chuck (Lynne) and many nieces and nephews. Lynn is predeceased by her beloved husband Dr. Howard McDiarmid and daughter Karen. Lynn was born in Lethbridge Alberta on March 27th, 1933. She studied nursing at the University of Manitoba where she met her future husband Howie. After nursing school, Lynn went on to work as a nurse in Bermuda, until Howie arrived to “take her way from all this”. They were married in June 1955 in Bermuda and she moved to Tofino the same year where Howie was practicing medicine. Together they worked at the Tofino General Hospital until their first child was born. They lived in Tofino together for 14 years and moved on to Port Alberni, Victoria, San Diego and eventually settling back in Victoria. Although they moved away, Tofino was always a special place to them, and continued to maintain a residence here and eventually as a family opened the Wickaninnish Inn in 1996. Lynn was the bedrock of the family and always the voice of reason. She will be remembered as the very soul of kindness with a beautiful smile and big heart. She will be greatly missed.
