Surfrider Pacific Rim volunteers cleaned up Blunden Island near Tofino on June 14.

Blunden was the first of several remote clean up trips scheduled to take place over the summer.

Surfrider and the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve are working together to remove the shipping debris that spilled off the Korean vessel ‘Hanjin Seattle’ in November.

The Park Reserve secured $72,000 from Hanjin Shipping to help pay for the clean up, which includes helicopter long-lining the debris to recycling centres.
