Vaida Siga has been elected to represent Electoral Area C (Long Beach) on the Alberni Clayoquot Regional District board.

Siga won the seat after securing 46 votes (71.9 per cent) in Saturday’s election, besting fellow candidate Saya Masso’s 18 votes (28.1 per cent). Incumbent Kel Robert did not run for re-election.

“I want to thank the folks that encouraged and supported me. It seems there are many new faces elected to represent their communities across the island and indicates communities are ready to entertain change,” Siga told the Westerly News. “I look forward to learning my new role and how best to contribute to the well-being of those I represent.”

Siga will now join five other directors on the ACRD board: Bob Beckett (Bamfield), Fred Boyko (Beaufort), Susan Roth (Beaver Creek), Penny Cote (Sproat Lake), and Mike Sparrow (Cherry Creek).
