Ucluelet Secondary School has been added to Island Health’s COVID-19 exposure list.

The potential exposure dates listed are Oct. 13-15 and Oct. 18.

This marks the first time USS has been on the exposure list this school-year.

Tofino’s Wickaninnish Community School was first listed with a possible exposure on Sept. 29 and remains on the list with a potential exposure on Oct. 15.

Ucluelet Elementary School was removed from the list after potential exposures were reported on Sept. 22-24 and Sept. 28-29, but has been added back on with exposures reported on Oct. 18-20 and Oct. 25.

Island Health’s website explains that close-contacts will be contacted directly and exposure notices are posted when a student or staffmember is confirmed to have attended school while infectious.

“Public Health works directly with school staff to identify anyone who may have been exposed, and to carry out case and contact management. Those identified as cases will be instructed to self-isolate directly by our Public Health teams. Those identified as close contacts may be asked to self-isolate or closely self-monitor for symptoms for a specified period,” the website reads. “If you have not been notified by Public Health by phone or by letter that you or your child need to self-isolate, you/they may continue to attend school as long as you/they are not experiencing any symptoms.”

Island Health urges all parents to check themselves and their children for symptoms daily and provides a health check form at www.bccdc.ca/schools as well as a self-assessment form at bc.thrive.health.
