Thousands of people are without power on Vancouver Island, including residents in Tofino, Ucluelet and Port Alberni.

BC Hydro says the power went out at roughly 8:45 Thursday morning, affecting 2,228 people in Tofino and roughly 2,000 people in Ucluelet.

According to BC Hydro, the cause is transmission circuit failure and crews have been assigned, but there is no estimated time for power to be restored.

Another 2,000 residents are also without power in Port Alberni due to multiple problems, including wires down, fallen trees and other outages that are still under investigation. Crews are on route and expect to have the power restored by noon.
