Don’t forget to slather on that sunscreen or wear a hat this weekend as it’s gonna be a hot one!

Weather forecasters are calling for a heat wave to settle over the southwest portion of British Columbia, including portions of Vancouver Island where highs will reach into the 30’s.

Temperatures are expected to peak either Saturday or Sunday with Environment Canada even expecting some records to be broken.

Areas expected to get the hottest on the Island include:

  • East Vancouver Island - Courtenay to Campbell River
  • East Vancouver Island - Duncan to Nanaimo
  • East Vancouver Island - Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay
  • and Inland Vancouver Island

Things are expected to cool off on Monday over the South Coast as an onshore flow of cooler, marine air develops.

Those at greater risk during this heat wave will be young children, pregnant women, older adults, those with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors. Remember to drink plenty of water and stay in a cool place, and never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
