Emergency personnel and community members came together for a pair of High Ground Hikes in Tofino and Ucluelet last weekend.
Tofino held their hike on Friday, April 11, starting from the Tofino Community Hall. Tofino was the first community in B.C. to host a High Ground Hike back in 2016, according to the provincial government, and the community continues to hold its walk to promote Tsunami Preparedness Week every year. This year the week happened April 13-19, 2025.
In Ucluelet, walkers gathered at Big Beach on Sunday, April 13 and after Ucluelet Volunteer Fire Dept. deputy fire chief Markus McRurie briefed participants on what they were doing, everyone walked up to Ucluelet Secondary School.
