Ian Kennington is giving up his spot on Ucluelet’s municipal council and the town is preparing a byelection to replace him.
The district announced Kennington’s resignation from council on Feb. 28, explaining the first-term councillor is leaving the community.
“Over the past two years, Councillor Kennington has been a dedicated member of Council, offering valuable insights from the building and development sector. His contributions have supported key initiatives, particularly in infrastructure renewal and affordable housing, and his perspective has been appreciated by Council and the community,” the announcement reads.
Kennington was one of four candidates for council in Ucluelet’s Oct. 15, 2022, municipal election with all being acclaimed as the number of candidates totaled the number of seats available.
“I would like to thank Councillor Kennington for his service to Ucluelet. His contributions and efforts are appreciated, and we wish him the best in his next chapter,” said Ucluelet mayor Marilyn McEwen through the announcement. The district is expected to announce details around the necessary byelection to replace Kennington in the coming weeks.
