The Pacific Rim Arts Society is celebrating a funding boom.
The provincial government recently announced that PRAS will receive $15,300 as part of the Community Gaming Grants program’s arts and culture stream.
Mid Island - Pacific Rim MLA Josie Osborne said the program is dishing out more than $282,000 to support young artists and extracurricular activities.
“Our communities benefit hugely from the work non-profit organizations do to foster a greater sense of belonging by supporting youth and families, and by delivering arts and culture programming,” she said through the announcement.
“This new round of funding for organizations for arts, culture, and DPACs and PACs will support a wide array of exciting initiatives in our region.”
A total of 11 organizations within Osborne’s Mid Island-Pacific Rim riding will share roughly $190,000 in arts and culture funding including $29,000 for the Port Alberni Maritime Heritage Society, $23,000 for the Hornby Festival Society, $15,300 for the Pacific Rim Arts Society and $15,250 for the Alberni District Fall Fair.
The Community Gaming Grants program also includes parent advisory councils with 14 PACs in Osborne’s riding receiving roughly $93,000 in funding to support extracurricular events, activities and equipment.
The big winners for the PAC funding are the Alberni District Secondary School Parent Advisory Council with $23,600, the Cumberland Community School Parents Association with $13,000 and the Bowser Elementary School PAC with $3,880. The total funding is more than $18 million to approximately 650 organizations across the province and over 1,300 PACs are sharing $11.2 million.
