The West Coast is invited to spend a night out supporting B.C.’s flood relief efforts.
A Flood Relief Fundraiser will be held at The Hatch Waterfront Pub in Tofino on Saturday, Dec. 18.
The event begins at 5 p.m. with a $10 cover charge and proceeds raised throughout the evening going to the Canadian Red Cross to support people affected by the province’s recent extreme weather events.
“There’s just so much destruction that happened with the flooding,” event organizer Jessica Walders told the Westerly News.
She said it’s important for West Coasters to do what they can to help those affected by the devastating and long term impacts of November’s unprecedented flooding.
“I don’t look at it as we’re people in Tofino and the other people affected by the flooding are on the mainland. To me, we’re people. It’s all about a sense of community as people in general and humanity instead of segregated communities,” she said. “I would hope that if we ever had some sort of, God forbid, natural disaster that really affected our lives, we’d have people in the province and Canada and other places in the world willing to set aside some time and some money to think about us and give us a hand.”
Saturday’s event will include live music, a raffle and a silent auction and Walders was thrilled with the immediate support she received while planning the fundraiser.
“A big thank you to the community for being so amazing as usual. Lots of businesses and donations and people jumping on willing to help…Community is just so important and Tofino is a great representative of that so I’m really proud of my little town,” she said adding The Hatch was “wonderful” and didn’t hesitate to host. “They were super generous in opening up their arms to this.”
She said the event will be open to all ages from 5-7 p.m. before the live music begins at 7 p.m. until late.
“It will be a place for everybody to get together and feel good about something,” she said. “Show your love and show your support.”
