The Pacific Rim Hospice Society’s SMILE program recently received $30,000 to providing warm meals in partnership with the District of Tofino and Eat West Coast.

The Clayoquot Biosphere Trust is distributing $125,000 to three local organizations focused on poverty reduction and social inclusion.

The funding comes from the provincial government’s Community Prosperity Fund, which announced a $25-million investment on B.C.’s first Nonprofit Recognition Day. The CBT revealed its three recipients on Sept. 3.

“This fund is part of the Government of B.C.’s commitment to supporting the non-profit sector and empowering local communities to make decisions about what would most benefit them and their communities,” the announcement reads.

“The Community Prosperity Fund supports vital non-profits that serve communities in B.C. Recipients funded are important partners, often providing services to those made vulnerable in all corners of British Columbia.”

The CBT has allocated $55,000 to the Alberni Drug and Alcohol Prevention Services to help support the development of a regionalWest Coast Youth Facilitator role and to advance a Youth leadership Group and Safe Spaces project.

The Pacific Rim Hospice Society is receiving $30,000 to continue a SMILE pilot program aimed at providing warm meals in partnership with the District of Tofino and Eat West Coast.

The remaining $40,000 is going to the West Coast Community Resources Society to support individuals navigating substance use and addictions through outreach, advocacy, and education.

“Over the past few years, British Columbians continue to showcase resilience, innovation, and tenacity as they face new challenges. Community service groups across the province are playing a pivotal role in supporting communities,” said parliamentary secretary for Community Development and Non-profits Megan Dykeman through the announcement.

“Myself and Premier David Eby are elated to announce $60 million in funding to not-for-profits, and we thank local community foundations who have supported in the funding’s distribution.”
