Colwood native and former Juan de Fuca Grizzlies minor hockey player Adam Cracknell made the most of his opportunities Friday, scoring his first career hat trick in the National Hockey League as his Dallas Stars beat San Jose 6-1.

Cracknell, who played 44 games for the Vancouver Canucks last season and has seen stints in Edmonton, Columbus and St. Louis, snagged his eighth, ninth and 10th goals of the season. The last was an unassisted, third-period shorthanded goal that made the score 5-1. He intercepted an errant clearing pass by Sharks goalie Aaron Dell and raced in to beat the netminder with a wrist shot to the glove side.

Cracknell’s goal output this season is one shy of his career total in 127 previous NHL games over parts of six seasons.
