June 30, 1927 - January 29, 2017

After a year of diminishing health, following a devastating stroke, Glen passed away peacefully in Nanaimo with family at his side. The only child of Ernest and Janet Edwards, Glen was born in Victoria in 1927. After spending his childhood years in Ucluelet, Glen moved to Vancouver as a teenager, living with his aunt and uncle, to attend high school. It was in Vancouver that he met his future wife, Josephine Vesak. They married on February 14, 1948 in Vancouver. Returning to Ucluelet, Glen logged, worked in fish plants, and fished to support his young and growing family. He soon followed in his father’s footsteps, purchasing his own fishing boat, the Effie G, in 1957, upgrading to the Wanderer II in 1959 and the Ocean Foam in 1974. He fished for many years, longlining halibut and rockfish, trolling for salmon, gillnetting herring and trap fishing prawns. He was a well known presence on the waterfront in Ucluelet and other fishing ports along the west coast of Vancouver Island for decades, finally retiring from fishing in 2005, at the age of 78. A quiet man, Glen was deeply committed to his family and his profession. Many of his sons fished with him over the years, helping establish the Edwards family as a prominent fishing family in BC. He was an original member of the Ucluelet Fishing Company, a member of the Pacific Trollers Association and a director of Mutual Marine Insurance Company. He is survived by his wife Joey Edwards, his children Jeff (Lise), Dan (Bonnie), Paul (Noella), Julie (Ruby), David, Joe, Janet (Norm), Roland (Sarah), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Glen will be deeply missed. A burial was held Thursday, February 2 at Ucluelet Cemetery.
