1926 — 2017 Passed away suddenly on March 10th, 2017, born April 1926 on the family farm in Saskatchewan. Lovingly remembered by son Donald (Heather), daughters Kathleen (Kathy), Marianne (Bruno) Garrecht, Bonnie (Dan); 6 grandchildren Aaron (Charlotte) MacKenzie, Allison (Carl) Hickey, Nadine Garrecht, Ryan (Samantha) MacKenzie, Darcy (Carmen) Garrecht, Michelle (Dan) Magnan; 8 great grandchildren, Kiera, Kaden, Kade, Rhys, Angus, Natalie, Lachlan and Evelyn. Survived by siblings Roy Laird and Mabel Wall. Predeceased by husband Robert(Bob) June 9, 2016, son Roderick 1975, son-in-law Guy Paterson, siblings: Pauline Cassidy, Norma Heyd, Hilda Knippshild, Ida, Bill, Ellen Relke, Roy, Marion Ringdal, Donald, Muriel Dyck, Joan Hagstrom, and Joyce. Doris came to To no in 1948 to teach school, where she met and later married Bob in 1949. During her 90 years she wore many hats, Teacher, Wife, Mom, Aunt, owner/manager of MacKenzie Beach Resort, Grandma and more recently Great Grandma. She served the Village of To no as Town Councilor, was an active member of the United Church of Canada, She especially enjoyed her time with family and friends. Celebration of Life to be held at Sands Funeral Chapel, One New Castle Ave, Nanaimo, BC on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 1:00 pm.
