All Tsunami watch, advisory and warnings for Coastal B.C. have been cancelled, according to a bulletin issued by the District of Tofino at 4:39 a.m. Tuesday morning.

A large 8.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the pacific basin near Alaska caused tsunami warning at around 2 a.m. for coastal British Columbia.

It was believed a tsunami has been generated which is expected to impact marinas, low lying areas under 20 metres, coastal infrastructure, and that widespread dangerous coastal flooding accompanied by powerful currents is possible and may continue for several hours after the initial wave arrival, according to an alert notification sent by the District of Tofino emergency command centre.

The estimated time of arrival for a potential first wave of the Tsunami was forecasted for around 4:40a.m.

Further information can be gathered on the District of Tofino social media channels and the One Call Now system.
