UKEE DOGS 1576 Imperial Lane Ucluelet ******6 out of 6 asterisks

Shocking Confession #2: I don't believe I've ever had a Ukee Dog. I'm currently stuck on the Salmon Wellington, an amazing salmon pie in velvety cream sauce. And for dessert, I can't ever seem to make it past the shortbread -it's too much like my grandmother's recipe. All made in house, as is the ginger ale I'm gaga for. If you wander to downtown Ukee and find the improbably named Imperial Lane, such an imperious name for a short and confusing street, you will find it, tucked away like a casual, cheery cross between a diner and a bakery -all with a splendid view of downtown and the sea beyond. The soups are always fresh and well-seasoned. The Quebecois-styled tortiere competes with the steak-and-mushroom pie for flavour. Salmon sliders with a soup side are a great way to go, but the pulled pork sliders are equally good. If you like Sparkmouth ginger ale (which they also stock) you may just love their home-made ginger ale. There's more on the menu, but as creatures of habit, we're stuck on the Salmon Wellington.
